Guitar Art: If you’ve been downtown you’ve probably noticed some rather large guitars. In fact, there are now 35 of them located around Austin. The 10-foot tall guitars were presented by Gibson Guitars and will be auctioned off at some point. Enjoy them while you can.

Austin Farmers’ Market: If you haven’t had fresh fruit or veggies lately you should hit the Farmers Market. Until a friend gave me some home grown tomatoes recently, I’d forgotten how much more flavourful home grown tastes. Saturdays, 9am-4pm at 5th and Guadalupe.

Austin’s Artists Market: Saturdays, 10am-6pm next to Mother Egan’s Pub on 6th Street. Features paintings, jewelry, stained glass, candles and morel.

Tube San Marcos: Tube rentals are open 10am-7pm. Get there before 5:30pm if you want to rent. Tubing in San Marcos is a summer tradition!

Welcome Back Kotter: Gabe Kaplan makes an appearance at BookPeople. July 7th, 7pm.

Faraday’s Foodie-Palooza: Faraday’s celebrates their second anniversary with cooking and product demos, door prizes and sales. Friday and Saturday from 10am-6pm

Independence Brewery: You’re invited to share some love for Barton Springs as the Independence Brewing Company hosts their 2nd annual Freestyle for Barton Springs Jump Contest. The winning jump will be featured on a special edition label Independence Freestyle Wheat Beer and the $25 entry fee will benefit the Austin Parks Foundation. Contest starts at 8:30am, after party starts at noon. Also this weekend is their regular 1st Saturday brewery tour and free beer sampling. What’s not to love about free beer?

Specifically for the kids:

Paint yer Wagon: Or in this case, your train! Terra Toys, Sunday July 8th, 1-3pm, kids can paint their own boxcars or tankers, supplies provided! Free!

Thanks for the Memories: Saturday, July 7th, 9am-noon, ages 5-12, all Home Depot Locations. Kids can make memory boxes to hold their treasures. All tools and materials provided. Free!

What’s all the Hoop-la? Why it’s World Hoop Day! Join musician Laura Scharborough for a da of hula=hooping instruction with special large, weioghted hoops. Sat., July 7th, 11am-1:30-pm at the Austin Children’s Museum at the Dell Discover Center.
